Saudify - Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Saudify is a browser extension that converts Arabic text into Saudi Arabic dialect. This privacy policy describes what data the extension accesses, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.

2. Data Collection

2.1 Data We Do Not Collect

• Personal information such as name, email, or address
• Browsing history or website visit data
• Cookies or tracking identifiers
• Analytics, telemetry, or usage statistics
• IP addresses or geolocation data
• Keystroke data or form submissions
• Any data from pages you visit beyond the text you actively select

2.2 Data Processed Locally

When you highlight text on a webpage, the extension reads only the selected text to determine whether it contains Arabic characters. This detection and the dialect conversion both happen entirely within your browser. No selected text is transmitted anywhere unless the optional API feature is enabled.

2.3 Data Stored Locally

The extension stores your preferences and settings using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.sync). This includes:

Settings sync across your Chrome instances using Chrome's built-in sync mechanism. If you provide an API key, it is stored in Chrome's synced storage and is never transmitted to any server other than the API endpoint you have configured.

3. Optional AI API Feature

When the AI API feature is enabled:

• The text you select and choose to convert is sent to the OpenAI API (api.openai.com) for processing.
• Only the specific text you select for conversion is transmitted, and nothing else.
• The request uses your own API key, meaning you have a direct relationship with OpenAI and their privacy policy applies to that data.
• Saudify does not store, log, or cache any text sent to or received from the API.
• You can disable this feature at any time by toggling it off in settings.

4. Permissions Explained

The extension requests the following browser permissions, each for a specific and necessary purpose:

Permission	Why It Is Needed
activeTab	To read the text you select on the current tab and to replace it with the converted Saudi dialect text. The extension only accesses the active tab when you interact with it.
contextMenus	To add a "Saudize this" option to the right-click context menu, giving you an alternative way to convert selected Arabic text.
storage	To save your preferences such as dialect intensity, conversion mode, UI language, and optional API key so they persist across sessions.
Host permissions (all URLs)	To inject the content script that detects Arabic text selection and shows the floating conversion button on any website you visit. The extension needs to work on all sites since users may encounter Arabic text anywhere.

5. Third-Party Services

By default, Saudify does not communicate with any third-party service. The only exception is when you explicitly enable the optional AI conversion feature and provide your own OpenAI API key. In that case, only the selected text is sent to OpenAI's API for conversion.

No advertising networks, analytics platforms, crash reporting services, or any other third-party services are used.

6. Data Security

• All text processing happens locally in your browser by default.
• Settings are stored using Chrome's encrypted storage mechanism.
• If you use the API feature, communication with OpenAI occurs over HTTPS (encrypted in transit).
• Your API key, if provided, is stored locally in Chrome's synced storage and is only sent directly to the OpenAI API.
• The extension's UI is rendered inside a Shadow DOM to prevent interference with or data leakage from host pages.

7. Children's Privacy

Saudify does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since no personal data is collected by default, there are no special provisions required for children's data.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Disable the extension at any time through Chrome's extension management page.
• Remove all stored settings by uninstalling the extension.
• Choose not to enable the API feature, ensuring all processing stays local.
• Review the full source code of the extension, as it is built with a FOSS-friendly architecture.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date. If significant changes are made that affect how your data is handled, we will notify users through the extension's update notes.

10. Open Source

Saudify is built with a FOSS-friendly (Free and Open Source Software) architecture. The source code can be inspected to verify all privacy claims made in this policy. Transparency is a core principle of this project.
